Obituary for Joseph K. Newman
Joseph Knowles Newman of Easton, MD died on Monday, November 19, 2001 at William Hill Manor, Easton. He was 88.
Born July 19, 1913 in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mabel Bowen Newman. After graduating from Kennett Square High School in Kennett Square, PA in 1932, he attended the University of Delaware where he received a degree in engineering in 1936 and was a member of the Phi Epsilon Fraternity. After graduation he began his career with Bell of PA, which later became Bell Atlantic and then AT&T. He was a Pioneer of AT&T and retired as an executive of the company in 1975.In 1937 he married the former Ethel Jenny Clark of Hockessin, DE and in 1975 they moved to the Tripps Creek area of Easton. Mrs. Newman died in August of 1992. He moved to William Hill Manor in 1994.
A member of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Oxford, MD, he was also a member of the Talbot Country Club, the Poplar Islands Yacht Club and T4C’S.
In addition to his wife, the former Vivian Hogg whom he married on October 25, 1998, Mr. Newman is survived by two children, Barbara Newman Junkin of Huntingdon Valley, PA and Gray Knowles Newman of Langhorne, PA; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Oxford on Saturday, December 1, 2001 at 11:00AM.
Burial will be private.
